Ten of the most dangerous toys were recently called out by safety group W.A.T.C.H. in anticipation of the upcoming holiday season. According to W.A.T.C.H., parents and caregivers are encouraged to take extra precaution during the holidays, as many toys are defective and may cause personal injuries.
The Most Dangerous Toys of 2016
Peppa Pig’s Muddy Puddles Family – These toys have two different recommended minimum ages listed (2+ and 3+), and do not list a potential choking hazard for infants.
Kid’s Time Baby Children’s Elephant Pillow – This product is marketed towards very young children, even though pillows are federally banned for children under one year of age. The packaging does not list an age warning.
Slimeball Slinger – This toy’s packaging claims it fires projectiles up to thirty feet, which could cause eye injuries.
Banzai Bump N’ Bounce Body Bumpers – The protective equipment recommended (in fine print) by the packaging is not actually being worn by the children on the cover.
Nerf Rival Apollo Xv-700 Blaster – This toy has a strong potential for eye injury. While the kids in the marketing are shown wearing protective goggles, these items are sold separately.
The Good Dinosaur Galloping Butch – The toy has a hard, pointy tail which could be dangerous for younger children.
Peppy Pups – While crib and play pen toys are required to have strings measuring fewer than twelve inches, some “pull toys” can be sold with longer strings. This model has a thirty-one-inch cord, which presents a strangulation hazard.
Flying Heroes Superman Launcher – This toy could fly into a child’s eyes or face, causing injury.
Baby Magic Feed and Play Baby – Although the age recommendation is 2+, the spoon is small enough to present a choking hazard.
Warcraft Doomhammer – This toy hammer, based on the recent Warcraft movie, presents a danger to children young enough to use it irresponsibly. Although the recommended age is listed as 6+, no safety warnings accompany the toy.
